Aquarium Trip

What an amazing day!

Today we visited Plymouth Aquarium and became marine biologists for the day.

We started by observing, discussing and investigating a variety of real Ocean specimens, including mermaid’s purses, shark jaws and turtle shells, discussing what animal they are from and their function. We carried out an investigation, ‘Saltwater Eggs’ to investigate the relationship between salt and buoyancy. Our final challenge, ‘Picking Plankton’, was a practical exploration of the feeding techniques used by basking sharks, humpback whales, butterflyfish, and seahorses to catch plankton. We used four different tools and had to guess who uses what to feed, and how they worked.  We also had a fact filled fun tour of the aquarium where we got to see many different sea animals and discovered lots of amazing facts about them.
