Reading Resources for General Use

Further books to read once your child has read the Phonics Play Comics

Parents can sign to for Oxford Owl. This website has lots of books to help consolidate your child's phonics learning. You will need to sign up to the website for free.

When searching for books, go to the levels section and then click 'letters and sounds phase'. After this click on Phase 3.

These books do have some words your child may not know but are a good extra when they have read all of the comics.

Collins Big cat phonics

We have been able to find some online reading books on the Collins Connect website. These are NOT decodable but may be nice to dip into while you’re at home. The children will be able to use their phonics to sound out most words and recognise some tricky words. However, the books include words with sounds we haven’t taught and focusses on the children using the pictures to ‘guess’ the words. They will need support with this. We wanted to make you aware of this free resource that is available to you.

Search the website bovver and then select ‘teacher sign in’ and enter the details:

Username: parents@harpercollins.co.uk

Password: Parents!21

Select ‘Collins Big Cat’ to view the available books. (The ‘Music Express’ selection is also free to access if you’re feeling musical).

Here you can select your books. Reception children usually read Pink and Red books during this year. If you have children in older year groups this might be a good resource for them too. The books do read the words aloud automatically but you can pause this. We hope you enjoy the access to these online books.
