Starter: Adding decimals
The most important thing to remember when adding decimals is that in your column addition calculation, you need to make sure the decimal point lines up! It doesn't matter if the last or first digits are not aligned in your calculation, as long as the decimal points are stacked on top of each other. See the picture below:
Main Lesson: Finding Fractions of Amounts
When finding fractions of amounts, it is important to remember to draw a bar model.
Your bar should be split into the same number of parts as your denominator states.
Then, divide your total amount by the denominator number. Your answer is what each part of the bar model is worth.
Finally, multiply this amount by the numerator.
