Learning outside of school

Residentials and day trips

Every child once they reach the juniors, has the opportunity to attend a school residential.

Year 3 go to Nineashes in Bodmin for three days, a beautiful setting where there are opportunities to zip wire and quad bike. This is often the first time children have stayed away from family members, but they love going away with their friends and adults they know.

Year 4 school journey lasts for 5 days. In year 4 children stay at Treyarnon Bay Youth Hostel. Activities during this week include trips to Flambards and Crealy Theme Parks. Children also have time to explore local beaches and cycle the Camel trail.

Year 5 visit Carnyorth, down in West Cornwall. During this visit, children explore the stunning cliffs at Botallack, we also spend time at St Michael’s Mount and play in the disused arsenic mines! The middle day of the trip is spent building a coracle from scratch and then sailing them.

The year 6 visit is to France. We usually spend 5 days in Brittany with children from other local schools (although the trip is organised by Callington). This not only gives the children a wonderful opportunity to see this lovely area, but also spend an unforgettable time with their friends in the last few weeks of their primary school careers. Activities typically include; a trip to Oceanopolis ( a huge aquarium), a visit to a French school, a visit to Concarneau and – invariably the favourite day – a theme park.
